Team WinTech and King claimed four wins at the 2025 edition of the Schools’ Head of the River and a collection of top-five finishes to bolster our position as the country’s leading junior boatbuilder. With over 300 crews competing in the event, athletes were tasked with racing down the reverse championship course, which will itself be used for The Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge in just a few weeks’ time.
Our fastest finisher was The Windsor Boys School (WinTech International), who secured a dominant win in the open championship quads by some 16 seconds over Leander Club. There is no doubting the strength of this state school programme, and having already won the youth quads title at the Head of the Charles, Mark Wilkinson and his athletes will now turn their attention to the set of silverware on offer for them at various summer regattas.

The Windsor Boys School was in a winning mood on Tuesday, taking the open Junior 16 first-eight titles, too (King). Our support of this immense programme has been one of the greatest stories we have ever had the pleasure of telling, and we cannot wait to see what this exceptionally gifted group of rowers will achieve in the coming months.

We had a range of top-three finishes to complement our wins: Kingston Grammar School placed second in the open Junior 15 first eight (WinTech), Hampton School placed second in the open Junior 15 second eight, and St Paul’s Girl School took silver in the girls’ Junior 16 second eight.
Maidenhead Rowing Club had a splendid row to place third in the girls’ championship quad category (WinTech), narrowly clear of holders Wycliffe College, whilst Marlow Rowing Club were third in the girls’ Junior 15 championship eight, and Sir William Perkin’s School were third in the girls’ Junior 15 school eight (WinTech).
Claires Court School finished fourth in the open Junior 16 first eight category (WinTech) before Bedford Girls School rounded out in fourth in the girl’s equivalent category.
Grange School also enjoyed a fabulous day on the river, placing sixth in the open championship quads (WinTech), a division that is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive categories on the docket. Claires Court School matched that result in the girl’s championship quad (WinTech).
With winter racing due to wrap up after tomorrow’s Oarsport Junior Sculling Head – an event we proudly sponsor – we’re excited to see how racing unfolds at Dorney Lake tomorrow and beyond. Battle lines have now been drawn, and dozens of crews will retreat into their Easter camps with much to prove and much to gain. We look forward to supporting all WinTech and King crews in their pursuit of silverware.
