Head of the Charles Regatta 2025 - UK Team Focus

Team WinTech & King UK enjoyed fantastic representation at the 2025 Head of the Charles Regatta, with 18 boats travelling over to race the iconic Boston-based course supported by Andrew, Jack & Simon of Oarsport and of course the WinTech & King team in the USA.

Blessed with stunning conditions and a 60th anniversary party, teams from the UK took home 6 of the incredible 42 medals achieved by crews racing from all over the world in WinTech & King Boats.

We secured two UK wins in the women’s youth double and men’s youth quad. Tideway Scullers took the doubles title under the guidance of Rhona MacCallum, whose programme continues to blossom. In a field of 57 boats, the crew of Kate Cohalan and Jess Kerbiriou – who both represented Great Britain at the 2025 Coupe de la Jeunesse – took victory here by ten seconds over Calgary Rowing Club.

The quad title was more predictable, returning to the Windsor Boys School for the third consecutive year. Mark Wilkinson has built a programme that is the envy of the junior sculling world, evidenced in securing three Fawley Challenge Cups in four years and retaining their title in stunning fashion, finishing nearly 17 seconds clear of the next closest challenger. Attention will now turn to the Fours and Junior Fours Head alongside the November Early ID GBRT Trials.

We also achieved two silver medals on the Charles. Headington School returned to Boston once again and placed second in the women’s youth eights, losing out to the ever-impressive RowAmerica Rye, who also competed in a King shell. After winning The Prince Philip Challenge Trophy for the second season on the spin, Ryan Demaine’s attention will now likely shift to a solid programme of winter racing as he builds his campaign for a third straight victory.

Our other silver medal came from Molesey Boat Club, who had a stunning row to place second in the women’s championship eight. In a hugely competitive field – featuring a USRowing national team outfit + top line-ups from Oxford, Cambridge, Leander, Yale, Princeton, Harvard, Brown, Dartmouth and Boston University, Molesey were second overall behind only the USRowing national team crew, who won the category.

We also collected one bronze thanks to the efforts of Black Sheep Rowing Club, who finished third in the women’s grand master eight. In a field of 34 eights, they were half a second back on silver and 15 seconds behind the winners from Toronto Sculling.

Other notable highlights include fourth in the women’s youth quads (Tideway Scullers School), sixth in the men’s championship double (Itchen Imperial Rowing Club), plus seventh and 12th in the men’s youth quads (Tideway Scullers School and the second Windsor Boys School crew, respectively).

Also competing were a number of other athletes and teams. We would like to thank all of those who chose to race in our boats and we hope you had a great experience in Boston.

After all the excitement of a transatlantic trip to race at one of the world’s most prestigious regattas, attention will now turn to a long block of winter training and the possibility of banking some pre-Christmas racing. We are looking forward to supporting many athletes and crews on their journeys throughout the season and can’t wait to see how this season unfolds.
