Scullers Head of the River 2025

The 2025/26 UK rowing season began with a bang at the Vesta Scullers Head last weekend, as hundreds of athletes took to the water to complete the reverse championship course in a single scull. Team WinTech started the season in fine form, collecting 11 podium placements and four pennant wins.

Our first victory came in the open junior 16 singles, as Toby Bell of Newark Rowing Club took the top prize. This young athlete finished fourth at the British Rowing Club Championships in the junior 15 single back in July and was 13th in the junior 16 double at the same event. Stepping into his J16 year, this win on the Tideway will set him up exceptionally well for the season ahead.

Our other open win came in the masters novice category, as Adam Rushton of the City of Bristol took the victory ahead of teammate William Mahoney. Both athletes boated in WinTech shells.

In the women’s U23 single, Meg Knight – fresh from her summer exploits at the U23 World Rowing Championships – collected the win in a category dominated by Reading University. All three of the top-ranking scullers hailed from Will Rand’s programme. Meg, who raced to victory in a WinTech Cobra, won a bronze at the 2024 U23 World Rowing Championships as part of the British women’s quad before placing 13th in the double this summer.

Our final victory came in the women’s masters C category, where Teresa Kwiecinska took the win whilst representing Lea Rowing Club.

Elsewhere, WinTech athletes placed highly in a range of other categories. Benjamin Snoxall finished second in the open U23 category whilst racing for Reading University. A two-time World Rowing Beach Sprint athlete, Ben won the National Schools’ Regatta in a double with his brother back in 2024.

In the open school single, Thomas Pakulis placed second for Lea Rowing Club. Thomas is a GB U19 international and enters his final season as a junior. Staying with the junior theme, Mia Tans of St Paul’s Girls’ School finished second in the women’s junior 17 category.

Other notable results came from John Drew of the City of Bristol Rowing Club (open masters E), Coran Cherry for Watermen (open apprentice) and Anna Ramsden for Mortlake Anglian and Alpha Boat Club (women’s masters D).

As always, we are thrilled to see so many athletes competing in our shells. With the season beginning in earnest over the coming weeks, we are looking forward to supporting crews starting out on their journey towards silverware. Please reach out to find out how you can get a fair price for an unfair advantage!
