Team WinTech enjoyed a set of fantastic results at the inaugural Junior Fours Head of the River, claiming three category wins and numerous other top five finishes. The event, which only launched for the first time this year, was created to supply more opportunity for young athletes to race on the world-famous championship course and it is clear that the race succeeded in that respect, with hundreds of crews navigating the course.
The first of our three wins came in the women’s school / junior coxed four, with Headington School taking the win in a field of 20 crews (WinTech International). St Edward’s School placed fifth and seventh in the same category whilst St Paul’s Girl’s School were ninth (all in WinTech Internationals).

Our third and final win of the day came in the open junior 16 coxed quads, as Shiplake College (WinTech International) took the win by over 20 seconds. In third were Marlow Rowing Club, followed by Leeds Rowing Club in fourth and Great Marlow School in fifth (all WinTech Internationals).

Other notable results included third place in the women’s junior 16 coxed quads (Sir William Perkins in a WinTech International) in a division won by the visiting Team Lombardia from Italy. Kingston Grammar School were fourth, two seconds back, and competed in a WinTech International.
We also claimed fifth in the open junior quads whilst riding with Lea Rowing Club (WinTech Cobra). This event was won by Marlow Rowing Club, but the field was missing the usual excellence of the Windsor Boys School, who opted not to compete.
In the women’s junior 16 coxed four, Headington School placed fifth (WinTech International) whilst Maidenhead Rowing Club were sixth in the women’s junior quads in a WinTech Cobra and Headington School placed tenth (WinTech International). In a massive field of 46 boats, other notable results included Sir William Borlase in 16th (WinTech International), Grange School in 17th (WinTech Cobra) and Marlow Rowing Club’s second crew in 19th (WinTech International). Their top crew won the event outright by two seconds over Wycliffe College, setting the stage for another scintillating campaign of rivalry.
On a rain-soaked and moody day on the Tideway, spirits were not dampened by the weather and the racing went off without a hitch. With positive results throughout the field, we are very excited to watch these crews develop over the coming months.
