National Schools Regatta 2025

National Schools Regatta 2025

At a truncated 2025 National Schools’ Regatta, Team WinTech and King collected 20 medals to reaffirm our position as a leading supplier of boats to junior rowers across the UK. We won six golds with three different clubs and also managed eight silvers and six bronzes. After racing was cancelled on Sunday, time-trials and finals were organised on Saturday, leaving some categories unraced.

On Friday, crews racing in our boats won two golds, starting with the girls’ junior 15 coxed fours. Kingston Grammar School – who won three categories across the weekend – stormed to victory in a WinTech International, ahead of Tideway Scullers and Barn Elms. Our second gold on the Friday came in the open junior 15 coxed quads, as Henley Rowing Club took the win (WinTech International) ahead of the Windsor Boys School (who also raced in a WinTech International).

Other medals collected on Friday, where racing focused on the junior 14 and junior 15 categories, included a silver in the girls’ junior 14 second octuples (Headington School in a King), a bronze in the open junior 14 second octuples (Windsor Boys in a WinTech International), silver and bronze in open junior 14 coxed quads (Henley and Leeds Rowing Club, both in WinTech Internationals) and silver in the girls’ junior 14 first octuples (Headington School in a WinTech International). We also managed a silver in the open junior 15 coxed fours whilst riding with Great Marlow School (WinTech International) and bronze in the girls’ junior 15 second coxed quads with Nottingham and Union (WinTech International). Silver and bronze were secured in the day’s penultimate race, as Headington School and Marlow finished second and third in the girls’ junior 15 first coxed quads (both WinTech Internationals).

We won seven medals on Saturday, starting with a couple of bronzes in the girls’ junior 15 first eights (Headington School in a King) and open junior 15 second eights (Hampton School in a WinTech International). Gold followed a couple of races later, as Kingston Grammar School triumphed in the girls’ junior 16 coxed fours (WinTech International, the exact same boat their J15’s won gold in the previous day) before Great Marlow School won silver in the open equivalent (WinTech International).

Our final three medals of the weekend were all golds as the Windsor Boys School collected wins in both open championship and second quads (WinTech International FLX for second quads and WinTech Cobra SE FLX for championship). Joe Wellington – who has already had a stellar domestic season – collected his third consecutive championship quad gold as the first-ever athlete to achieve that feat and all three in a WinTech Cobra!

Both boats were our brand new midweight FLX mould, a shorter, narrower, and deeper hull—specifically designed for high-rate rowing. This hull rewards technically proficient crews who can maintain elevated stroke rates, which are essential not only for maximising speed but also for providing dynamic stability. Tested against other major brands by Valery Kleshnev of BioRow, these hulls have consistently proven faster, offering marginal gains to those able to harness their full potential and have been chosen by Windsor Boys’ Director of Rowing for this year's major regattas including National Schools and Henley Royal Regatta.

Our final win of the weekend came in the open championship coxed fours, as the Windsor Boys’ School dominated the field to see off Pangbourne College and King’s College School to win gold in a new King shell delivered just a couple of weeks earlier.  They also made use of the drag reducing WinTech “RDS” oars.  A superb combination of crew, boat and oars in testing blustery headwind conditions. We think this was the first time Windsor Boys have won Championship 4+ in their history at National Schools and they certainly did it in style!

Despite losing out on a day of racing, the National Schools’ Regatta once again delivered a stellar set of contests upon returning to the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham.

At team WinTech and King, we are very much looking forward to the conclusion of the racing season and supporting numerous athletes and clubs in their pursuit of glory.
